Remember the advice that you should cut your hair every six weeks? As it turns out, that doesn’t necessarily apply to everyone! We all come in many different shapes, sizes and colors, so it makes sense that our hair needs a bit of personalization as well. Haircuts are something that are very personal – some people like to get them on a regular schedule while other people might be relieved to know there’s a little bit of wiggle room. So, how long should you wait between haircuts? The answer: it depends.
The most high-maintenance of hairstyles will require more frequent haircuts. This involves styles like very short hairstyles, blunt bobs, angled cuts and bangs. These cuts tend to grow out fast and need more frequent haircuts. Count on having these types of cuts maintained every 2-4 weeks.
When you have a hairstyle that isn’t quite so severe, such as a layered cut with softer layers or longer hair, you can go anywhere from 4-8 weeks between haircuts depending on your specific cut. Other factors will come into play such as your hair’s thickness and whether or not it is processed or exposed to a lot of heating tools during your styling routine, in which case the timeline should be shorter.
Those of you who are rocking your natural tightly-curled locks or long and loose waves with little-to-no treatments or styling can go the longest between cuts, around 8-12 weeks.
