Before coming into a hair salon, you likely have an idea in your head about what you are hoping to achieve with your hair color. However, no matter what your expectations are with your hair, they can’t come into being without some good communication between you and your hair colorist. Here are a few tips to follow for your next hair color appointment.
- Photos: Hair colorists love seeing photos of the looks you’re going for. Bringing in a few examples gives you a greater chance of getting just what you have in mind. When discussing the photo, be specific about what you like and don’t like about the pictured hair color.
- Be willing to consult/listen: If your hair colorist is making recommendations for you, know that they are drawing from their experience and knowledge about what likely will and won’t work with your particular hair. If you have dark hair and come in hoping to achieve a platinum blonde, it won’t happen all at once. Your hair colorist can give you recommendations on how to achieve the desired look, but it may take some time and more than one appointment if it is a dramatic change.
- Don’t be afraid to voice your opinion during the process: Your hair colorist would rather hear about something you’re unsatisfied with while you’re still in the chair. Speak up and let them know if you were hoping for something lighter or if something looks “too orange”. At the same time, we ask that you are reasonable (see above tip) and that you are kind in your requests.
