Salon Hair Everyday

Reading Time: 2 minutes

As a stylist, I can’t tell you how many times I have heard clients say, “I wish I could make my hair look the way you do!”

While hearing this may give me a sense of smug satisfaction (Why, yes! I am awesome. Thank you for noticing!), deep down I know the truth… almost anyone can achieve that salon-perfect style at home!

It all comes down to two things:  TOOLS & PRODUCT.

You can create almost any look if you have the right variety of tools and product. I’ll use myself as an example:

My hair is fine and thin, but it has gotten curlier as I age. So, when I want my hair to be big and fluffy, it requires five products: root booster, volume mousse, lightweight spray wax, hair spray, and shine spray. When I want a smoother look, it requires five products as well: leave-in conditioner, root booster, smoothing cream, thermal protectant, hair spray and shine spray (wait… that’s 6).  And, of course, I will need a blow dryer, multiple sizes of round brushes and a flat iron to make the whole thing come together.

“But Pam,” you say “I don’t have any of that stuff, and I don’t want to spend a bunch of money on hair supplies. Isn’t there anything I can do?”  Sure there is…  You can learn to love that flat/frumpy/frizzy un-styled look you are rocking, because that is all you are going to get.   Salon-perfect style only comes with salon-quality tools and product.

I know, I know. Spending money on hair care products may seem like sort of a drag.  But try to think of it this way: Your hair is an investment, and investments require upkeep. If you want your dish washer to work, you need to buy detergent. If you want your car to run, you’d better buy gas.  And if you want your hair to look amazing, you have to invest in the appropriate tools and product.  It’s just that simple.

Now, assuming you are ready to make the investment in having fabulous hair, the next step is to figure out which tools and product you need to achieve your desired look. This part is a lot easier than you might think! There is a sage, a font of knowledge who is eager to bestow their wisdom upon you, standing behind you every time you get a haircut. That’s right– your stylist.

The next time you are in the stylist’s chair, pay attention to what he or she is doing and ask questions like, “What tools are you using? What kind of product are you selecting? How did you just do that amazing flippy thing with my bangs?”  Ask him/her to recommend the best product and tools for your hair type, and get advice on how to recreate your favorite looks on your own.

With some insight from your stylist and the proper tools and product, you can have salon-fabulous hair from home… Or you can just hire me to show up every morning and do you hair for you. Because, yes! I am awesome. Thank you for noticing!

Happy Styling!
