5 Things to Avoid When Preserving HaircutsGetting your haircut is a wonderful experience, especially with one of our awesome, friendly stylists here at Salon Povera. However, we understand that it’s not realistic for you to come in every month. If you want haircuts that last, there a few things you should definitely avoid:

  1. Over washing – Yes, shampoo removes the grease and sweat, but it also strips your hair of good natural oils. This can leave your hair feeling fried and looking dull. Try to limit hair washing to two or three times a week then sub in dry shampoo for non-wash days.
  2. Over styling – Blow dryers, curling irons, and other hot tools add style, but they can be damaging to your hair if used in excess. Make sure you use a heat protectant on styling days, then try an updo, a cute braid, or even a hat occasionally to give your hair a break.
  3. Picking your ends – If you have long hair, you may notice split-ends appearing a few weeks after your hair cut. It might be tempting to pick at them but leave those ends alone! You’re only causing further damage to the cuticle of core of your hair strand.
  4. Forgetting conditioner – Your individual hair style and body chemistry will impact how often to condition and which conditioners are best for you. Our stylists can help you know what the best products are for your hair to really shine and last longer between haircuts.
